John at double his birth weight

Now, I know that as a parent you are always proud of your child, but we were very proud of John this week. We weighed John and he weighed in at a big healthy 10 pounds 4 ounces - well over double the weight when we took him home and double his birth weight of about 5 pounds.

He is also getting pretty strong, as we have found a few times this week. At the weekend, he was lying on the big island in the kitchen well away from the edge, when we suddenly heard a huge crash. A big glass jar full of lemons had hit the floor and shattered into a million pieces......John had kicked them off the island! Now John is pretty good with his feet (a soccer player like great grandad Selwood?) and enjoys lying on his mat and kicking his toys (you've caught a fish!) and he had simply kicked out and destroyed the heavy glass jar. Now, if it had been Isabella, we would have shouted at her for being careless, but we all looked round and when we knew that no one was hurt it was "Good boy John!" I really was proud - and I am going to be nice to Izzy as it all seems terribly unfair to me. Izzy has been great with John - a fantastic big sister.

I think this may be my favourite recent photo of John

Anyway, yesterday he almost did the same by grasping a flower in the flower vase. He is a strong little chap for 10 weeks old. Maybe glass is out for a while.....

Izzy is great with her little brother - I am very proud of her.

The other big thing is that I talked with Mum and Simon on Skype about "solid" food and so we decided to give it a go. John likes banana and had a little bit of oatmeal today as well.

My intake this evening is beer and hotdog - I think his diet is better than mine......
